Ely Museum First World War Family History Day and Exhibition 2018 & Unveiling of the King's Colour of 'The Cambs Suffolks' Display

Saturday, 3rd November 2018, Ely Museum. 11am - 4pm. Free entry to both the event and the museum!

We are pleased to announce that we will be holding another of our popular First World War Family History Days at Ely Museum on Saturday 3rd November 2018, from 11am to 4pm. As usual this event and supporting exhibition are free for anyone to visit. In addition, this year entry to the rest of the Museum on this day (and on the 10th and 11th November) will also be completely free so as visitors can view a new display featuring the recently conserved King’s Colour of the 11th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment – ‘The Cambs Suffolks’.

Our team of researchers, including experts on local regiments such as the Cambridgeshire Regiment, Hunts Cyclists and the Suffolk Regiment, will be on hand all day on November 3rd to help any visitors that would like to find out more about the wartime service of their relatives. People are also welcome to bring along any wartime photographs, postcards, medals, badges or items that they would like to find out more about. The event will also include our pop-up exhibition, which details the 1/1st Battalion, Cambridgeshire Regiment’s part in the fighting of 1918 – a year that saw the heaviest losses for the Battalion for any year of the War. Alongside this there will be a display of medals and biographies of some of the Cambs men involved in the 1918 fighting.

With this year marking the 100th anniversary of the Armistice this event is an excellent opportunity for people to talk directly (and for free!) to researchers with decades of experience in researching First World War soldiers and sailors. Many people have wartime photographs or medals sat in draws at home, so why not bring them along and see what you will discover about your relatives!

We look forward to seeing you there.
